Champions Innovate is a groundbreaking initiative that takes place in the months leading up to the men's Champions League final and brings together UEFA, commercial partners, the host city and start-up companies. Each season, the start-ups are tasked with finding innovative solutions to specific challenges set by the host city. After months of hard work to find ways to make the UEFA Champions League final more sustainable, the three Champions Innovate finalist start-ups – Pavegen, My Emissions and Pledgeball – presented their innovative pilot projects to a judging panel at a showcase event at London City Hall two days before the 2024 UEFA Champions League final. Each was teamed up with one of three Champions League sponsors – Rockstar Energy Drink (PepsiCo), Just Eat Takeaway.com and Mastercard.

An EOI for the Sunshine Coast Indoor Sports Centre will go to market in August 2024 and EOIs for the Aquatic Centre at Chandler and the Sunshine Coast Mountain Bike Centre in 2025. The Australian and Queensland governments have jointly allocated funding from the $1.87 billion Minor Venues Program for investment in these projects.

QUT will invest $4.5 million into sports data science over the next five years as part of a new national research hub that will help build better athletes in the lead-up to the 2032 Games and beyond. The Australian Sports Tech Analytics & AI Research (AusiSTAR) Hub was launched today (May 14) at its QUT headquarters in Brisbane – the host city of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The hub is a consortium of universities, sports associations, government agencies and private companies. It will train a new generation of sports data analysts to help address a national shortage of these experts, who provide vital insights into areas including performance and injury prevention.
