The ASTN, in partnership with ESG PERFORM, will be running roundtable/workshop session with a small group of industry stakeholders from sportstech, sports organisations, investors, and government. Attendees with be introduced to the ESG SPORTS platform, review a demonstration of the ESG SPORTS self-assessment offering, and have an opportunity to discuss and provide feedback. Lunch will be provided after the workshop from 12pm.

The Gold Coast is a destination for sports innovation, offering close connection to industry collaborators, and brings together like-minded innovators from within sports, as well as other related and influential industries, including academia, health, media and entertainment. The Gold Coast provides a huge opportunity for the entire ecosystem of sportstech, from the developers and innovators of sportstech solutions to end users, including university researchers, athletes, sporting clubs, SSOs, stadiums and facilities.

The ASTN Gold Coast Sportstech Uncovered event that took place on Tuesday 11 June 2024, successfully highlighted the vast potential and diverse applications of sports technology in enhancing performance, increasing accessibility, and driving innovation. The launch of the Sportstech Gold Coast Growth Plan, in partnership with the City of Gold Coast, marks a significant step towards establishing the region as a premier destination for sports tech. The insights shared by Lydia O’Donnell, Dr David Martin, and Dr Martin Schlegel underscore the importance of collaboration, customer-centric problem-solving, and ethical considerations in developing effective sports tech solutions. Queensland’s Sports Minister Stirling Hinchliffe has a big ambition for the future of sports tech in Queensland – for the State to be a global leader in one of the world’s fastest-growing industries.

On 5 September, the Senate Inquiry into concussions and repeated head trauma in contact sports handed down its much-anticipated report. In the report, the Committee highlights the inadequacy of insurance arrangements for athletes and encourages state and territory governments to engage with professional sporting organisations to explore how the general exclusion of professional sports people from various state and territory workers’ compensation schemes could be removed. In this webinar, Dr Eric Windholz from Monash University will examine current insurance arrangements for athletes, the exemption from workers’ compensation of professional sportspersons, and options for reform considering the Senate Inquiry's recommendations.

Led by the Treasurer and Minister for Trade, the Hon Mr Cameron Dick and the Minister for Tourism, Innovation and Sport, and Minister Assisting the Premier on Olympics and Paralympics Sport and Engagement, the Hon. Stirling Hinchliffe MP., the ASTN and select members from the sports technology community heard more from Queensland Government on the future opportunities for sports technology in Queensland.
